Title: A Simple Rose
Description: Layering transparent colour

Cherry - November 24, 2009 08:53 PM (GMT)
A demonstration layering dilute washes. Use whichever colours you like so long as they are transparent. I didn't take a note of the colours used but there were three to paint the flower.

A simple drawing from one of my own photos.

The first very dilute layer. Don't be tempted to add too much paint to the mix.

The colour has been darkened near edges of petals to show the form of the flower and in the shadowed area at the top of the stem. Areas that I want to stay light have been blotted lightly with paper towel.
Pencil lines have been erased where not needed.

Some work on the leaves. I don't want any detail, just light and shade.

More colour added to the flower and attention paid to putting paint in the right place to achieve the all important form of the petals. I also make sure the petals are seen individually for the most part.

Why not give it a go. Any questions, just ask!
