Title: Evening On Heswall Shore
Description: Water mixable oil
Probe - June 5, 2009 06:39 PM (GMT)
Hi all, :D
I havn't done any painting in the last few months except that a few weeks ago I was given a beginners set of water mixable oil colour paints.(W & N "Artisan") Here is the first attempt. Being used to watercolour I used plenty of water so it has resulted in a sort of hybrid between a watercolour and an oil painting!

(claphands) (claphands) (claphands) A really beautiful painting Probe. I have loads of tubes of this paint but unfortunately cannot use it. It's so frustrating when I know, and can see from you work, the fabulolus effects that can be achieved. (loveh) Sylvia

That's a good effort for your first attempt with these thssupp It reminds me that I ought to dig mine out & have another go with them.

Lovely peaceful painting, nicely done. thssupp
I have used these water mixables and found them very good, although I do like the traditional oils purely for the smells.... I know, I'm weird! (grins)
One of the great things about the Artisan paints is the ease with which you can clean up - just rinse everything with water! Great!
Hope you enjoyed using them and we will see more soon. thssupp

Hi John, Good to see your work here again. I am impressed with your first attempt with Artisan Paints. Your painting is excellent and is of a scene I know very well.
Best regards,
Pierre

Never tried them though I must admit I'm tempted.

Nice composition here Probe. I like the rendition of the water, and how it leads the viewer around the point of land into the sky. I also love the boats! Very nice painting.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. :D Like Dorothy I find them difficult to use. Maybe I will persevere for a while but methinks I will soon be back to watercolour!

A pleasing painting, especially as you say it's the first time you've used this medium.

I agree with Neil...a very saleable painting. You know, in my work, I am in and out of people's houses all the time. A lot of "mature" people have original paintings up on their walls, painted by friends and relatives in many cases I should imagine and I have seen quite a few commissions. There aren't many that would match up to most of the paintings put on this site.

thssupp You have done a great job with these paints. There is no way I would say this was your first attempt. I would certainly keep up with these if this is early days with them.
Well done (thumbs)

Thanks Julia Cherry and John. :D John, I can assure you it was the first, a copy of a previous watercolour and I used the paint in a sinmilar manner to watercolour. I have since tried another which was a complete disaster but thanks to encouragement from, in particular, Shaz I will have another attempt as soon as I have the time.
Probe ;)

I do hope you persevere and I look forward to seeing your efforts. Remember Rome was not built in a day so keep on trying...
and if I can get the hang of them anyone can, believe me!
