Title: Audlem Lock, Shropshire Union Canal
Description: Oil Pastel

pierre - March 21, 2009 02:26 PM (GMT)
Hi All,

I have just finished this oil pastel based on my original watercolour painting which was composed from my reference photographs last April. I painted this scene as a memento of the many visits which my wife and I have enjoyed in this area.

Painted on Langton Watercolour NOT Paper 300gsm - Painting size: 12" x 8"

Oil pastels used: Sennelier and Neopastels - Fine detail: Polychromos Pencils

Best regards, Pierre

The greens look a bit to acid to me, and the line of the treetops on the right is a little too regular.

(claphands) (claphands) (claphands) This is gorgeous Pierre, the place looks just like the canal near where I live, in fact I have a photograph that is very similar to this painting. I love the barges. (loveh) Sylvia

I see you are improving with the oil pastels. Well done. Yes, Neil is right about a bit of red reflecting off the roof of the main barge.

Many thanks, Ken, Neil, Sylvia and Julia, for your comments which I appreciate.

Ken: I agree with your remark re. 'greens'. The image is far greener, more 'blue-green' than the original and I seem to have lost much of the yellow in the trees. I will correct this and also 'break' the line of trees on the right. Thank you.

Neil: You are absolutely right re. the red reflection on the side view of the narrow boat. I will add this. Thank you.

Sylvia: Good to hear from you and to receive your thoughts. Thank you.

Julia: Thank you for yours.

As a 'would-be' oil pastellist, I thank you all most sincerely for your encouragement.

Kind regards, Pierre
