Description: from workshop

Yesterday I went on a pastel workshop run by Vivien Walters.
The image was predrawn (printed onto velour paper)- a bit like cropped velvet, different to pastel paper and more layers can be applied. Normally Vivien's underdrawing is charcoal and dark sepia pastel, but there were 9 of us, hence the prints. They all looked different at the end anyway.
Colours used if I remember rightly were: white to start for highlights, dark blue for shadows. Black to define a bit. Then sepia, india yellow and flesh and a light blue.
Anyway:-

A very worthwhile w/shop by the result julia. Very well done. The fur is so realistic when done with pastels.

An excellent result from your workshop Julia, I like the way you have captured the light and shadow.
It was interesting to know that you had used a Velour support for your painting. I used it for the first time earlier this year and found it gave a strong grainy effect, maybe it was the harder pastel pencils I used compared with your soft pastels. I will post my picture picture later to illustrate the point.
Ken.
