Wet-in-Wet Misty Landscape Lesson
This is a Misty style painting that is fun to do but we are never sure of the outcome because of feeding in various strength colours and variations and are so unpredictable.

We start off with just a pencil outline of the stream and then add masking fluid to the edges against the land area also a streak in the water plus stones in the water.

Colours
Raw Sienna
Lemon Yellow (or similar)
Neutral Tint
Burnt Sienna
French Ult Blue
Scarlet lake (or similar)
Paynes Grey
All W&N
Masking Fluid (add a spot of water)

Brushes
45 mm Hake type (one wet one dry)
No 12 Rigger (or similar)
No 2 Rigger
Dip Pen.

Misty Part Two
Using the wet Hake
Wet the whole of the paper (although we only need the sky at this stage it is better to wet all to prevent any attempt at cockling).
Add very pale R Sienna to the top half of the sky then introduce a slightly stronger mix of F U Blue + S Lake + a hint of Neutral Tint to indicate part of the lower sky plus slightly stronger same mix to suggest misty trees and being careful to leave faint gaps in the foliage using the No 10 Rigger.
Blend in using a dry soft Hake if needed.

This sky colour can be applied as a thin wash to both sides of the stream.

Now as the sky is drying use the No 2 rigger to indicate some pale tree trunks, also before dry use a mix of Lemon Yellow + Paynes grey and indicate some bush foliage in front of the misty trees.

Misty Part 3
Using a mix of P G + L Y start to develop the trees being careful to allow for a small narrow gap before the lower foreground starts.

Be careful to keep this development not too strong as we can add later if required.
Now add a low strength wash mix of R S +F U Blue + S Lake and as this begins to dry add some slightly stronger mixes to form a few contours and bush suggestions and finally add some lemon yellow pale to the front area.
This can all be applied using the No 12 Rigger.

Misty Part 5
Develop both sides using slightly stronger colours and suggest some foliage, also add small foreground tree on the left using a dark mix of B Sienna plus F U Blue also a few Burnt Sienna leaves.

Add some sky colour to the right hand side of the stream and just a little bottom left but retaining a pale centre to the stream.

Misty Final Part

Remove masking fluid and add slightly stronger colour to the stream sides but leave the water streak and stone masking until last.

Add more colour strength if the land area each side needs it (judge it in relation to the misty trees)

Add a few thin grasses and a few small twiggy bushes using a Dip pen with watercolour (drag some colour onto the pen nib using a brush and make sure it reaches the tip)

This Lesson can be completed with fewer breaks in the Parts but I needed to stop and start to be able to scan and show developments.

Hope you enjoy having a go and remember you can add colour at various times of drying.
