This is a small demonstration to give ideas on developing trees that reside side by side and not intended as a full lesson.

Lightly sketch out a tree shape roughly as shown and allow for extra trees on the left (viewed from front)

Mix up a wash of Raw Sienna and Paynes Grey (the blue Paynes Grey of W&N or similar)and follow your sketch.

Try to form the pale edges with shapes similar to an open umbrella
Dry off

Now mix a slightly stiffer wash of PG / RS/+ B/Sienna and carefully develop the tree to retain the lighter edges plus a pale wash of B/Sienna to the trunk.

Remember you can re wet this area prior to adding this stronger wash if you prefer.

Dry off

Now roughly sketch in the intended darker tree and being careful to retain some light patches.

Prepare a mix of Burnt Sienna + Paynes Grey and paint in the darker tree being extra careful as it joins the first tree.

Try to form some negative ends using a brush with a good point or a Rigger type.

For the tops and outer edges of the tree experiment on scrap using a No 6 or 8 or 10 round Round brush by flattening the bristles between your fingers when wet with paint and this should enable a semi round edge to be formed.

When all dry you can experiment with some wet in wet development alongside the dark tree area as shown on the next image. Plus maybe a few fir trees behind again.

We are having problems loading the images so I hope this is an image of the final scene, and hopefully all will be back soon.
